Withlacoochee River(South) Silver Lake Recreation Area to Nobleton

Withlacoochee River(South) Silver Lake Recreation Area to Nobleton

The Withlacoochee South is one of the best touring rivers in the state. This section of the With.S  is very scenic with winding turns, dark red tannic flow and beautiful tree lined banks. It is characterized by relatively high banks. This part of the river is considerably narrower than the middle and Lower Sections, with sizeable banks on both sides of the river. Most of the river is lined with oaks and cypress, with occasional stands of pines. The banks are less swampy than the rest of the river.
We launch from Silver Lake and paddle under I-75 through the Croom Woldlife Management Area, part of the larger Withlacoochee State Forest. We will paddle around wild, beautiful Hog Island and stop for lunch here. Parts of this paddle resembles paddling in the bayou of Lousianna when the water is high and intruding into the dark forest. The outside edge of Hog Island is always a treat to paddle, very scenic and quiet.
A very scenic and pretty paddle. Quiet and serene surrounded by tree lined banks on both sides with numerous birds all around us.
This is a 8+/- miles of easy downstream paddle.
Pack you lunch and plenty to drink.
PFD/WHISTLE IS THE LAW AND IS ALWAYS ADVISED TO BE WORN.
