Little Jones Creek from Lk Panasoffkee

Little Jones Creek from Lk Panasoffkee and back

Little Jones Creek is a lovely, serene wilderness stream ending approx. 6 miles upstream on Lake Panasoffkee. L.J. Creek is springfed and is located in The Lake Panasoffkee Wildlife Management Area. A true wilderness paddle with no homes and plenty of wildlife and shade. The creek is an upstream paddle, narrow, tight and twisting with a nice shady tree canopy of oak, cypress and bay trees.
The flow is nice and the creek is mostly clear and cool with eel grass rippling in the current beneath us. Big Jones Creek runs adjoining to Little Jones and we will explore that for a bit after our downstream return trip from Little Jones Creek.
According to Sandy Huff's Paddling book, "Little Jones Spring Head actually emerges inside an impenetrable jungle just west of I-75, about a thousand feet behind the Days Inn". I have never gotten that far up.
Meet at Idlewild Lodge and RV Resort and launch onto Lake Panasoffkee, for a one mile shallow open water lake paddle to the entrance to L.J. We will paddle upstream as far as we can venture and then turn around, paddle back downstream and explore Big Jones for a bit before our trip across Lk Pan. and Idlewild Park.
$4.00-5.00 launch fee applies to Idlewild Lodge RV Park.
No shuttle required just a pleasant and can do attitude.
Approx. 8 miles trip.
Bring your lunch and plenty to drink.
PFD/Whistle is the law and is always encouraged to be worn.
