Day 1: Rainbow River to Centennial Park

  Rainbow River

We can't promise you a "Pot Of Gold" at the end of our journey on the Rainbow, but we can promise you an amazing scenic  trip on a crystal clear beautiful river. The Rainbow is a favorite river of many to kayak. We will paddle approx; +/- 8 to 9 miles.
We putin at Rainbow Spgs State Park canoe launch and paddle upstream to the gorgeous springhead and then paddle downstream to the takeout at Centennial Park on The Withlacochee River S in Dunnellon. Just before we reach Centennial Park you will notice the river changing from clear to a dark tannin color; this is where the Rainbow ends and The Withlacoochee River S begins; just south of Dunnellon's Beautiful City Beach. Along the way downstream on the Rainbow there are numerous spots to get out and cool off in the clear water in warm weather months.
The Rainbow River is formed by a first magnitude spring (RainbowSprings) that is ranked fourth in the state for volume of discharge. In addition to the springs located at the headwaters, there are many smaller springs that discharge from numerous caves, rock crevices, and sand boils the entire length of the river. The RainbowRiver is a gently winding river that is 5.7 miles long and merges with the Withlacoochee River at Dunnellon Florida. The headwaters,Rainbow Springs, is the anchor for the Rainbow Springs State Park. This first magnitude spring is not one large vent but is numerous vents that issue 400 - 600 million gallons of crystalline water every day. The Rainbow Springs State Park is a popular destination to swim, snorkel, canoe, picnic, camp or stroll on the walking paths to enjoy the many plants and animals that abound here.http://www.therainbowriver.com/
